It provides children with a developmentally appropriate early childhood education. Parental involvement is also required; parents work in partnership with staff to promote the education of their children. Services are avaiable in Line Mountain, Milton, Mt. Carmel, Shamokin, Shikellamy, and Warrior Run school districts.

A free program for expectant mothers and families with infants and toddlers ages birth to 36 months who live in Northumberland County. Families enrolled in the home-based program participate in weekly home visits where information is provided for educational and developmental growth. To encourage social interaction, families are invited to attend the center twice a month where fun activities and a healthy snack are provided. Infants and toddlers in the program receive several health screenings within the first 45 days of enrollment, including vision, hearing and developmental screenings. Participantsâ medical and dental visits are tracked by a licensed practical nurse (LPN) on staff. Expectant mothers are visited weekly in the home where lessons are provided on health, nutrition and child development topics. Each trimester during pregnancy, an LPN visits and discusses any concerns the pregnant mother may have. At birth, the baby then becomes enrolled in the Early Head Start program.

Offers a home-based program that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and social services based on the individual needs of the family. Home visitors, called Family Partners, make weekly home visits to provide services designed to enhance the child's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development. Also coordinates monthly play groups.

Investigates reports of child abuse, neglect or abandonment; document substantiated cases; provide for the temporary placement of children who, for their own protection, have been removed from the custody of the adults who are responsible for their care; work with families who are experiencing a problem with child abuse with the objective of facilitating continued family unification or reunification; and provide ongoing supportive services for children in permanent placement.

A partnership of local businesses, community social service agencies, and county government that is focused on building a comprehensive early childhood system to address the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of children. Develops strategies based on local needs to ensure children are ready to learn when they enter school. Raises awareness about early childhood development. Since its inception in 2007, the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) has focused on creating opportunities for the commonwealthâ??s youngest children to develop and learn to their fullest potential. Classrooms experience for 3 and 4 year old children whose family incomes meet or exceed Head Start limits. Services are offered in the Kennedy Early Childhood Center for eligible students in the Greater Nanticoke Area School District. Curriculum focuses on school readiness skills. Transportation is not provided.

YWCA Carlisle & Cumberland County operates our Preschool with a focus on the standards set by the PA Department of Education. We offer fun school experiences for children ages 3-5. All preschool staff and employees of the YWCA Carlisle & Cumberland County have FBI, PA Criminal Background & PA Child Abuse Clearances on file.

Through the Shared-Ride Program for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), clients who are between the ages of 18 and 64 and have a documented disability are able to ride the ACTS buses for a reduced fare. This service offers clients door to door service for their transportation needs.
