Works to capture stray animals, assist in pet/owner recovery, resolve neighbor disputes over animals, assist the elderly and physically-challenged with animal concerns, advise and teach residents of their responsibility as pet owners, advise non-pet owners of their rights, and assist in the removal of nuisance wildlife.

Provides outreach and education to the public on mosquitoes, ticks, and other community environment issues. Small animal traps are also available on loan for Allegheny County residents to control nuisance wildlife on personal property.

Accepts reports of community environment issues, such as standing water, tires, and abandoned pools. These complaints can be made anonymously.

Serves 13 counties directly and through contract agencies to provide services including: Tuberculosis (TB), Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), HIV Counseling & Testing (C/T), Immunizations, Communicable Disease Surveillance and Control, and Animal Bite Control. Additional services for high risk pregnant women, infants, children, and families, services to families with children with special health care needs, childhood lead poisoning, PKU, SIDS, Injury Prevention, Public Health Education, chronic disease prevention and intervention (i.e. diabetes, cancer, injury prevention, oral health, cardiovascular disesases,etc.) and environmental health.

Offers referral for dog license at appropriate county office for dogs over 3 months of age.

Assists with live domestic and some wild animals within city limits.

Care teams offer vaccinations, including those required by law for students entering the K-12 school system.

Serves as the sttatewide emergency response for animals through all volunteer county based teams. Assists emergency responders in the capture, control, transport, care, and other needs of animals and their owners in natural disasters, car accidents, fires, and other emergencies.

Protects, shelter and adopt homeless animals. Assists in returning lost pets to their owners, place adoptable pets with responsible owners, aid in the prevention of cruelty and neglect to animals through educational effort, and legal citations as necessary.

Offers individuals with pet spaying and neutering assistance through discounted vouchers. Will also help in locating homes for unwanted pets. Educates and assists the public in an effort to control the pet population and reduce animal euthanizations.

Advances the cause of animal welfare and the prevention of animal cruelty. Provides spay and neutering, emergency medical care, and animal foster homes. Also oversees a trap, neuter, release (TNR) program to control the population of free roaming cats.
