Personal/Grooming Supplies

Programs that pay for or provide soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, combs, brushes, cotton swabs, deodorant, facial tissue, toilet paper and other personal hygiene/grooming supplies for homeless people and other individuals who need them.

Adapted Clothing

Programs that pay for or provide clothing which has been customized for nursing facility residents, wheelchair users, surgical patients and people with special clothing needs due to stroke, paralysis, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease or other disabilities that make it difficult for them to dress or find attractive clothing that fits properly.

Baby Clothing

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand clothing and layettes for infants and young children.

Children's Clothing

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand clothing for children and/or adolescents.

Diapers

Programs that pay for or provide cloth or disposable diapers.

General Clothing Provision

Programs that provide clothing for people who need it. Available items depend on what has been donated and is on hand at any given time. The collection may include but does not specialize in children's clothes, work clothes, maternity clothes and shoes.

School Clothing

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand clothing or school uniforms for children who need something appropriate to wear to school.

Thrift Shops

Organizations that offer new or secondhand furniture, appliances, clothing, toys and other material goods at lower than retail prices, and which often use the proceeds from sales to support other services to the community. Thrift shops accept direct donations from the public of new and reusable goods. Also included are other types of resale shops that sell secondhand but reusable musical instruments, salvaged building materials, office equipment, sports equipment, books, CDs and other material goods.

Winter Clothing

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand coats, gloves, hats, scarves and other winter clothing.

Work Clothing

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand uniforms or other working clothes. Also included are programs such as "Dress for Success" that provide interview suits and other professional attire for low income individuals (frequently women) who need this type of wardrobe to secure and/or retain gainful employment.

Appliance Donation Programs

Programs that accept new or reconditioned refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washing machines, clothes dryers and other large appliances, refurbish them if necessary, and keep them for use in their own programs, donate them to other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell them to raise money for agency programs.

Electronics/Small Appliance Donation Programs

Programs that accept new or reconditioned radios, television sets, microwave ovens, fans, heaters, vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, small kitchen appliance and other similar equipment, refurbish them if necessary, and keep them for use in their own programs, donate them to other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell them to raise money for agency programs.

Formal Wear Donation Programs

Programs that accept donations of new or secondhand gowns, tuxedos or other party apparel and, in some cases, appropriate accessories, and keep the clothing for use in their own programs, or donate it community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve.

Furniture/Home Furnishings Donation Programs

Programs that accept new or secondhand sofas, chairs, tables, beds, dressers, rugs and other necessary home furnishings, refurbish them if necessary, and keep them for use in their own programs, donate them to other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell them to raise money for agency programs.

General Clothing Donation Programs

Programs that accept new or secondhand clothing, repair the items if necessary, and keep the clothing for use in their own programs, donate it to shelters and other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell it to raise money for agency programs. These programs accept donations of all types of clothing including children's clothes, work clothes, maternity clothes and shoes rather than specialize in a particular type of clothing.

Maternity Clothing Donation Programs

Programs that accept new or secondhand clothing that women can wear during pregnancy, repair the items if necessary, and keep the clothing for use in their own programs, donate it to shelters and other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell it to raise money for agency programs.

Toy/Game Donation Programs

Programs that accept new or secondhand toys, games, puzzles and other similar items; repair them if necessary; and keep them for use in their own program or donate them to toy lending libraries, family shelters, foster care programs and other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve.

Winter Clothing Donation Programs

Programs that accept new or secondhand coats, gloves, hats, scarves and other winter clothing, repair the items if necessary, and keep the clothing for use in their own programs, donate it to shelters and other community-based organizations for distribution to the people they serve, or sell it to raise money for agency programs.

Baby Furniture

Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand cribs, bassinets, strollers and other furniture that has been designed for infants/babies. Also included are Baby Box programs that provide sturdy cardboard boxes in which newborns can safely sleep during the first months of life. The boxes come with a firm mattress, a waterproof cover and a fitted sheet, and may include necessities like diapers, wipes, breast cream, breast pads, a onesie and an activity cart. The goal of the project is to reduce the incidence of infant mortality and possibly Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) (also know as Sudden, Unexplained Infant Death – SUID) as occurred in Finland where the boxes were originally introduced.

Child Passenger Safety Seats

Programs that pay for, provide and/or install car seats that can be used to restrain infants or young children who are riding as passengers in motor vehicles. Also included are programs that provide booster seats for older children or provide referrals to organizations that provide the seats or the safety checks.
