The program provides adult role models to young children in the community.
Volunteers are matched through common interests in hopes that the volunteer is able to enhance the child's life as well as broaden their horizons. Volunteers are trained to look for teachable moments to develop social, academic, physical skills as well as introduce new hobbies, cultural, recreational, and environmental experiences.
Eligibility:
CHILD ELIGIBILITY: Children between the ages of 6 and 13, in
predominantly low-income families living with only one parental
figure and reside in economically depressed areas of the city and
county. Children exhibiting severe behavioral or emotional problems
or developmental delays may not be appropriate for service if their
difficulties prevent them from forming a positive connection with a
mentor.
VOLUNTEER ELIGIBILITY: Anyone over the age of 18 in Erie or Western Crawford County can become a volunteer mentor.
