These funds provide income to workers and dependents in the event of retirement, disability or death. SSA also administers Medicare and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program for the aged, blind and disabled. Local offices accept applications, determine eligibility, hear appeals and are available to assist individuals trying to access benefits.
