Offers a 12-week education program specially designed for families experiencing the effects of severe brain disorders. Focuses on three major psychiatric illnesses: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), and major depression.
Eligibility: A) Relative or friend of a mentally ill person
B) Must be willing to complete a 12-week course, 2 1/2 hours per week

Helpful Tips: Education course for family or friend of a mentally ill person. Classes are team-taught by trained family members who have been there and understand. Participants are encouraged to support each other, to be knowledgeable, and to be effective members of a team that includes the family, the consumer, the doctor, and the case manager. Skills are taught on how to advocate and become an effective caregiver. Many participants also find the emotional support that is so vital during times of illness and stress. You are not alone.
