Government program to help homeowners get mortgage relief and avoid foreclosure. Making Home Affordable programs offer a range of solutions that may be able to help:
A) Refinance and take advantage of low mortgage interest rates.
B) Reduce monthly mortgage payments
  • Get mortgage relief while searching for re-employment
    C) Get help when you owe more than your home is worth
    D)Avoid foreclosure when homeownership is no longer affordable or desirable

    Under recently announced changes to HAMP, military homeowners and other families who are permanently displaced by a job-related move may be eligible for a mortgage modification.
  • Eligibility: Service members struggling with mortgage payments may be eligible for a HAMP modification if:
    A) Displaced due to an out-of-area job transfer such as permanent change of station (PCS) orders and occupied the home as a principal residence immediately prior to the displacement
    B) Intention on returning to the home at some point in the future; and
    C) Do not own any other single-family real estate
    D) Military and other families who do own other residential properties may still qualify for a HAMP modification under an expanded rental property modification option or qualify for a short sale under Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program (HAFA).

    Intake Procedure: Contact mortgage servicer (the company to which mortgage payments are made) to see if they participate in the program. Not all servicers do. If agency does not, they may offer their own foreclosure prevention solutions that might be best suited to your situation.

    If your mortgage servicer does participate in the MHA program but makes the determination that you are not eligible for a HAMP modification, they may offer you modification alternatives of their own. Be sure to ask your servicer if they offer programs for service members.
    Intake Requirements: Have as many of the following documents on hand as possible:
    A) Monthly mortgage statement
    B) Information about other mortgages on your home, if applicable
    C) Two most recent pay stubs for all household members contributing toward mortgage payment
    D) Last two years of tax returns
    E) If self-employed, the most recent quarterly or year-to-date profit and loss statement
    F) Documentation of income you receive from other sources (alimony, child support, social security, etc.)
    G) Two most recent bank statements
    H) A utility bill showing homeowner name and property address
    I) Unemployment insurance letter, if applicable
    J) Account balances and minimum monthly payments due on all of your credit cards
    K) Information about your savings and other assets
    L) It may also be helpful to have: A letter describing any circumstances that caused your income to be reduced or expenses to be increased (job loss, divorce, illness, etc.) if applicable
