Eligibility:
Pennsylvania residents who:
A) Received Supplemental Security Income or SSI
B) Were receiving cash benefits from the Department of Human Services prior to death
C) Were found eligible for cash assistance prior to death (but had not yet received payment)
D) Residents of nursing homes who received SSI or nursing home care payments prior to Jan. 1, 1973, continuously to the present

Fee Amounts:
Fees are set by individual funeral directors; there is no fee to
apply for assistance.

Service available in all of Pennsylvania. Clients must contact the
office in the county where they live (even if another county's
office is closer to their residence).
Helpful Tips:
To receive payment, the funeral director must be registered as a
provider with DHS.
Please Note: Allegheny CAO Headquarters Office is NOT open to the public. District offices are available for drop-in service.
Individuals are assigned to the district office that serves their address upon application for benefits.
Staff at Headquarters will direct callers who wish to apply in person to the appropriate district office.
